Manhattan based pianists Steven Mann and Ray Wong join Cape Symphony musicians Heather Goodchild Wade (violin) and Elizabeth Schultze ('cello) for a performance of two of history's best piano trios. Mendelssohn's Piano Trio #1, written the year the composer turned 30, is widely considered one of his greatest chamber works. Shostakovich's Piano Trio #2 is a masterpiece typical of Shostakovich; a work that reflects the pressures of a life lived under Stalin’s regime and during World War 2, and one that incorporates ideas on life and death, and elements of Russian and Jewish folk music. Between the two trios, Ray and Steve will present Paul Dukas' L'apprenti sorcier (Sorcerer's Apprentice) for 1 piano, 4 hands, a transcription from the original symphonic tone poem of 1897. Based on Goethe's poem by the same name, this piece is Dukas' most performed work and is widely recognized due to its inclusion in Disney's Fantasia. Don't miss this performance, it will be an afternoon to remember! The performances will take place at on Saturday April 15th at 3 pm at the Wellfleet Preservation Hall, 335 Main Street, Wellfleet MA, and on Sunday April 16th at 3 pm at First Congregational Church of Chatham, 650 Main Street, Chatham MA. Tickets are $25, and are available at the door or online for the Wellfleet performance at www.welfleetpreservationhall.org.
