Name: "Songs For A New World" At Cape Playhouse
Date: August 4, 2021 - August 14, 2021
Event Description:
"Songs for a New World," the first musical from three-time Tony Award winning composer-lyricist Jason Robert Brown, will run on the west lawn of The Cape Playhouse in Dennis Village through August 14. Limited capacity, socially distanced, general admission lawn seating is available. Audiences should arrive early and bring beach chairs and blankets. Bleachers also are available. The performance will begin just before sunset. This groundbreaking musical transports audiences through time to meet an array of characters on the brink of life-changing decisions. Brown ("Honeymoon in Vegas," "Parade," "The Bridges of Madison County") weaves the characters’ stories together in a powerful collection of songs that examine life, love, and the choices people make. The show features Bobby Conte Thornton, who made his Broadway debut originating the role of Calogero in "A Bronx Tale" and is currently starring in the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s "Company." Joining Thornton is Farah Alvin, who has appeared on Broadway in productions of "It Shoulda Been You," "Grease!," "Saturday Night Fever," "The Look of Love: The Music of Burt Bacharach and Hal David," and the Tony Award-winning revival of "Nine." Olivia Hernandez ("Austen’s Pride" at The 5th Avenue, "Guys and Dolls" at The Guthrie, "Oklahoma!" at TUTS, "West Side Story" at Lamb’s Players Theatre, and "Mary Poppins" at The Encore Musical Theatre Company) and Erick Patrick ("Jesus Christ Superstar" National Tour) round out the impressive cast. With a driving, exquisitely crafted score that runs the gamut of today’s music, this show is a celebration of life and music for the whole family.
